6th EUROPEAN FESTIVAL OF ACCORDION ORCHESTRAS
October 28 – 31, 2010 – Prague, Czech Republic
The Czech Accordion Association and the Concert and travel agency CTA Prague are organizing an International competition of accordion orchestras as a part of the 6th European Festival of Accordion Orchestras in Prague.
The festival will be held in representative City halls and churches.
All registered non professional accordion orchestras may participate.
Accordion orchestras and friends from all over the world are welcome to this great international music show. Prague – our Golden City, invites you.
Categories:
I. JUNIOR ACCORDION ORCHESTRAS
Orchestras of 12 and more musicians (at least 70% of the members must be under the age 16 years). These bands may also include other instruments with at least 10 accordions. Free choice of programme without any limitations.
II. CLASSICAL AND MODERN MUSIC
Orchestras of 12 and more musicians, no age limit, these bands may also include other instruments besides at least 10 accordions. Free choice of programme with one obligatory composition.
Level: 5
There is a choice from 6 following compositions, offered by the international Jury:
1. H. Boll – Bollero martellato (Hohner 1998)
2. R. Brući – Suite (II. Scherzino, IV. Igra) (Preissler 1987)
3. F. Dobler – Bagatellen (III.Cantus firmus, IV. Tarantella) (Hohner 1986)
4. S. Hippe –Die Monde des Saturn (IV. Tethys) (Rundelverlag 2006)
5. M. Novotný– Sonatina alla Mozart (choice of two parts) (Rondo 2004)
6. M. Seiber – Präludium und Fuge A-moll (Hohner 1956)

III. LIGHT MUSIC
Orchestras of 12 or more members with no age limit, either consisting mainly of accordions and of other instruments (where the accordion predominates). Free choice of programme.
Attention, please! All supplementary instruments you´ll need you have to bring with.
THE DURATION OF COMPETITION PERFORMANCES
Please, be careful that you do not go beyond the time limit – in the 1st category max. 12 minutes, in the 2nd category 18 minutes (including obligatory composition) and in the 3rd category max. 15 minutes. This limit will the Jury control and break penalize.
SCORES
It is necessery to submit at least one score of compositions (copy) you have played to the Jury shortly before your performance.
TIME TABLE
Participating orchestras are required to register 40 minutes before their competition is advertised in the festival programme book by the competition leader or the person in charge of your group or your musical director.
Lots for the registered orchestras will be drawn on July 31, 2010 in Prague.
JURY
The international Jury will consist of distinguished artists, pedagogues and experts. The decision of the Jury is irrevocable and will be awarded with marks from 1 to 25 (according to the “Jugend musiziert“ -System).
Conductors can receive respective critics from the Jury chairman or from his authorised representative after all performances.
The Jury reserves the right not to award prizes should it decide that the orchestras do not have sufficient artistic standard.
FESTIVAL PRIZES
for category winners are valuable cups.
Organizers will award also other special prizes according to the recommendations of the Jury. All participating orchestras will get valuable certificates.
The absolute winner (Festival Laureate) is required to perform his short programme during award ceremony.
APPLICATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE JULY 25, 2010
COSTS
Travelling and accommodation costs are at the expense of participants.
Participation in the competition is obligatory for registered orchestras. The application fee at cat. I. EUR 170.00 and at cat. II. and III. EUR 190.00 should reach the Festival Secretariat CTA by July 25, 2010 at latest.
FESTIVAL FEE
EUR 30.00 per person will be required from the orchestras which do not book their stay (programme and accommodation) through the festival organizers.
Festival badge
(which includes programme book and festival souveniers) authorizes entry to all competition events, admitance to the award ceremony and to all festival concerts. Obligatory for all visitors and members of the orchestras. Price: EUR 8.00 (Festival badge is already included in our accommodation and stay package – see application).
ACCOMMODATION
will be offered in the 3 categories and confirmed on a „first come first served“ basis. (please, see the application form and our Prague hotel offer).
Boarding
Participants can order meals in the restaurants of the National House (EUR 8.00 per three courses menu) and in the hotel restaurants (hotel cat. B-C, EUR 9.00 per three courses menu).
The final invoice for each registered orchestra will be sent by the festival secretariate 3 weeks prior to final payment deadlines.
Notice
The Festival organizers decline all liability for accidents of any kind sustained by the participants during the festival.
